I'm creating these first posts in the September 06 timeframe but this story really starts many years ago. What I will be writing about is the build up and subsequent ride in the 2007 Iron Butt Rally (IBR). A motorcycle ride that will take riders to points unknown but will last for 11 days and usually cover in excess of 11,000 miles.
I'll pick up the story at approximately 3:30 am August 23 2005 on the second morning of the 2005 IBR. It was at that time I had piloted my nicely appointed 2003 Suzuki Vstrom off the road near Coeur d'Alene, ID and became separated from my prized mount. The result was a complete total of the Vstrom and for me a cracked right hip, separated left shoulder, some small road rash and a broken metacarpal in my right foot. The injuries to me were not bad at all when taken in the context of the damage to the motorcycle.
